Noroxin (Norfloxacin)
Pharmacological action
Antimicrobial synthetic agent of the group of fluoroquinolones of broad-spectrum action. It has a bactericidal effect. By inhibiting DNA-gyrase it breaks the process of DNA superspiralization.
Highly active against most gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Proteus spp., Morganella morganii, Klebsiella spp. (including Klebsiella pneumoniae), Enterobacter spp., Serratia spp., Citrobacter spp., Yersinia spp., Providencia spp., Haemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis.
Active against some Gram-positive bacteria (including Staphylococcus aureus).
Anaerobic bacteria are resistant to norfloxacin, Enterococcus spp. and Acinetobacter spp. are little sensitive.
It is resistant to β-lactamases.
Pharmacokinetics
When administered orally it is absorbed about 30-40%, absorption rate is decreased during food intake. Binding to plasma proteins is 14%. Norfloxacin is well distributed in the urogenital tissues. It penetrates through the placental barrier. About 30% is excreted unchanged in the urine.
Side effect.
Digestive system: nausea, heartburn, anorexia, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
CNS: headache, dizziness, fatigue, sleep disorders, irritability, anxiety.
Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching, Quincke's edema.
Urinary system: interstitial nephritis.
Contraindications to use
Pregnancy, lactation (breast-feeding), children and adolescents (under 15 years), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, hypersensitivity to norfloxacin and other quinolone preparations.
Usage during pregnancy and lactation
Norfloxacin is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation (breast-feeding) period, because it was established in experimental studies that it causes arthropathy.
Use in patients with liver dysfunction
It should be used with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Administration in patients with impaired renal function
It should be used with caution in patients with significant renal dysfunction.
Administration in children
Contraindicated in children and adolescents (under 15 years).
Indications of active substances of the drug Noroxin (Norfloxacin)
Infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to norfloxacin.
For oral use: diseases of the urinary tract, prostate, gonorrhea, prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections, bacterial infections in patients with granulocytopenia, "traveler's diarrhea".
For topical use: Conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, acute meibomian gland inflammation and dacryocystitis, prevention of eye infections after removal of foreign body from cornea or conjunctiva, after damage by chemical agents, before and after eye surgery otitis externa, acute otitis media, chronic otitis media, prevention of infectious complications during surgical interventions on the hearing organ.
Dosing regimen
Individual. A single oral dose is 400-800 mg, the frequency of use is 1-2 times a day. The duration of treatment is determined individually.
In ophthalmology and ENT practice it is used topically.
