Product description

Drug title

Nimotop (Nimodipine)

Pharmacological action

Selective class II calcium channel blocker, dihydropyridine derivative. It selectively interacts with L-type calcium channels and blocks transmembrane influx of calcium ions. It has a vasodilator effect mainly on cerebral vessels. Prevents or eliminates vasospasm caused by various vasoconstrictor biologically active substances. Causes a more pronounced increase in perfusion in areas of the brain with insufficient blood supply (compared to areas with normal blood supply). Improves cerebral blood flow at subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Stabilizes functional state of brain neurons. Improves memory and ability to concentrate.

It has no significant effect on systemic BP, practically does not affect conduction in AV and sinoatrial nodes and myocardial contractility. It reflexively increases HR in response to vasodilation.

When administered orally it is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, Cmax in plasma is reached within 1 hour. It is subjected to intensive metabolism during "first passage" through the liver. Bioavailability is low. Binding to plasma proteins is 95%. T1/2 in the initial phase is 1-2 hours, in the terminal phase - 8-9 hours. Excreted by the kidneys (less than 1% unchanged) and through the intestine.

Contraindications to use

Severe arterial hypertension, pregnancy, lactation, hypersensitivity to nimodipine.

Administration during pregnancy and lactation

It is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation (breast-feeding).

Administration in patients with kidney dysfunction

Correction of dosage regimen is required in patients with impaired renal function.

Administration in elderly patients

Correct dosage regimen is necessary for elderly patients.

Indications for active substances of Nimotop

Cerebrovascular insufficiency (including acute cerebral ischemia, memory and concentration impairment, unstable mood). Treatment of residual effects of cerebral circulation disorders and conditions after surgery for subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Dosing regimen

When administered orally, the single dose is 30-60 mg; the frequency of administration and duration of use depend on the indication.

When intravenous, intracardiac injection the dose is set individually.
